Hepatitis C Treatment for Vulnerable Populations
Introduction
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) can be effectively treated with new medications, but many vulnerable groups struggle to access this treatment.
Objective
This study aimed to evaluate how well specific treatment plans work for vulnerable populations in Austin, Texas.
Methods
We enrolled patients diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C and assessed their treatment journey through various stages, including prescription, initiation, completion, assessment for cure, and achieving cure.
Results
Out of 62 participants:
- 89% had experienced homelessness.
- 94% had used drugs.
- 66% were prescribed treatment.
- 49% started treatment.
- 38% completed treatment.
- 14% were assessed for cure.
- 10% achieved a cure.
