Background
There is a need for affordable ways to help people with anxiety disorders. DIALOG+ is a proven method designed to improve meetings between patients and healthcare providers in mental health care. While it has shown benefits in various studies, it had not been tested specifically for anxiety disorders until now.
Methods
We conducted a pilot study in an outpatient service in Buenos Aires, Argentina. DIALOG+ was used five times over six months. Due to the pandemic, all sessions were held online, which was not the original plan. We measured outcomes like quality of life, general symptoms, and social situations before and after the intervention. We also gathered patient feedback through interviews.
Results
Forty patients completed the study. We found significant improvements in:
- Quality of life: Increased from 4.1 to 5.0 (p<0.001)
- General symptoms: Decreased from 33.0 to 25.9 (p<0.001)
- Social situation: Increased from 5.2 to 5.6 (p=0.008)
Patients reported mostly positive experiences, even though there were some technical issues with the online format.
Conclusions
The results suggest that DIALOG+ is a practical and beneficial option for treating anxiety disorders in routine care, even when delivered remotely. Future research should explore how to implement this method effectively on a larger scale.
