Feasibility and Benefits of Telemedicine in Emergency Care
Introduction
Telemedicine involves remote patient care using new information and communication technologies. This study evaluates the remote management of patients in emergency services during pre-pandemic and pandemic periods of COVID-19.
Methods
A prospective, randomized, controlled study was conducted at FarhatHached Hospital in Sousse. The telemedicine group received follow-up at home according to a predefined protocol, while the control group received standard care. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 23.0 for Windows.
Results
Out of 400 patients, those in the telemedicine group had lower re-consultation rates (14% versus 26.5%) and higher treatment adherence (97.5% versus 92%) compared to the control group. Patient satisfaction with telemedicine was also significantly higher (90% versus 37.5%).
Conclusion
Implementing telemedicine in Tunisia’s emergency services can lead to better remote patient care, reduced re-consultation rates, improved treatment adherence, and higher patient satisfaction.
