Mind-Body Therapy for Multiple Sclerosis
Study Overview
This study looked at whether Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) can help people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) manage their symptoms, especially fatigue.
Study Details
The research was conducted over eight weeks with 28 participants from the Danish MS Society. They were divided into two groups: one group practiced TRE, while the other continued their usual care.
Goals of the Study
- Primary Goal: Reduce fatigue levels in participants.
- Secondary Goals: Decrease other MS-related symptoms and explore new ways to measure sleep, hand motor function, gait, cognitive function, and mood.
Results
Initially, there were no significant differences in fatigue levels between the two groups. However, after adjusting for other factors, the TRE group showed improvements in fatigue and other symptoms like spasticity and pain. The TRE group also showed better performance in a walking test over the study period.
Conclusions
The study suggests that TRE may help reduce fatigue and other symptoms in people with MS. More research is needed to confirm these findings.
