Effect of Narrative Photography on Physical Therapy Students’ Learning Outcomes in Heart Transplantation
Nursing and Health Sciences, September 2024, Volume 26, Issue 3, Article e13155
Physical therapy students need to understand how to care for patients undergoing heart transplantation, including their emotional and practical needs. This study compared the effectiveness of a narrative photography (NP) program with traditional learning (TL) in improving students’ knowledge, satisfaction, empathy, and moral sensitivity. The two-armed assessor-blinded randomized controlled trial involved 117 physical therapy students, with 56 in the NP group and 61 in the TL group.
Results showed that the NP group demonstrated a significant increase in knowledge compared to the TL group (p = 0.02). Additionally, 90.57% of the NP group reported being very satisfied or satisfied with the NP method, and 88.68% felt that NP helped them understand the importance of considering subjective realities. In conclusion, NP improved knowledge and satisfaction compared with the TL group, suggesting its potential as a valuable teaching-learning methodology for physical therapy students in the field of heart transplantation.
