Impact of Medical Adhesives on Fluid Leakage at Injection Sites
Objective
The study aimed to see how effective medical glue is in stopping fluid leakage at needle insertion sites in patients with severe swelling.
Methods
Sixty patients with severe swelling were included in the study from June 2022 to June 2023. They were randomly divided into two groups: the control group and the experimental group, with 30 patients in each. In the experimental group, medical glue was applied at the injection site after the injection, covered with gauze, and then bandaged. Patients were advised to limit their activities. The control group received standard care with bandaging and activity restrictions. The study monitored various factors, including:
- Effectiveness in stopping fluid leakage
- Length of hospital stay
- Duration of leakage
- Nursing costs
- Skin complications (like infections or rashes)
- Patient satisfaction with care
Results
The results showed significant differences between the two groups:
- Success rate in stopping leakage: 83.3% vs. 20.0%
- Average duration of leakage: (2.20 ± 2.76) days vs. (7.33 ± 3.28) days
- Total skin complication rate: 6.67% vs. 33.33%
- Overall patient satisfaction: 80.00% vs. 36.67%
However, there was no significant difference in hospital stay and nursing costs.
Conclusion
Medical glue is effective in stopping fluid leakage at injection sites in patients with severe swelling. It also shortens the leakage duration, reduces skin complications, and improves patient satisfaction. Therefore, using medical glue in clinical settings is highly recommended.
