Objective
This study aimed to assess how Persian shallot extract affects serum markers and blood pressure in patients diagnosed with metabolic syndrome (MetS).
Methods
Fifty patients with MetS were randomly divided into two groups: one received Persian shallot extract, while the other received a placebo. Both groups were treated for three months. Blood samples were taken at the start and end of the study to measure various health markers.
Results
Initially, both groups showed similar health markers. By the end of the study:
- Lower Levels: The intervention group had significantly lower levels of malondialdehyde and oxidized low-density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL).
- Improved Health Markers: There were significant reductions in fasting blood sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL in the intervention group.
- Increased Antioxidants: The total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels were significantly higher in the intervention group.
- Blood Pressure Reduction: The intervention group also experienced significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
