Evaluation of the efficacy of low-level laser therapy in the treatment of ulnar neuropathy at the elbow in terms of symptoms and clinical and electrophysiological findings: a randomized, prospective, double-blind clinical trial

Evaluation of Low-Level Laser Therapy for Ulnar Neuropathy

Overview

Ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE) causes pain, paresthesia, and weakness. Our study assessed the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in treating UNE symptoms and improving clinical and electrophysiological outcomes.

Study Design

We conducted a randomized, double-blind clinical trial with 68 UNE patients aged 18-60. One group received LLLT, while the other received sham treatment. Various assessments were conducted before treatment, at the 15th day, and at the third month after treatment.

Results

The LLLT group showed significant improvements in symptoms, clinical findings, and nerve conduction velocities compared to the sham group. Notable improvements were seen in VAS pain scores, QuickDASH scores, and sensory NCV in the LLLT group.
