Cost-Utility and Cost-Benefit Analysis of NEXpro for Neck Pain in Office Workers
Background
Neck pain is a major health issue for office workers, affecting 42% to 68% of them. This study looked at the costs and benefits of a program called NEXpro, which includes neck exercises, health workshops, and ergonomic training over 12 weeks.
Methods
The study used a stepped-wedge cluster randomized controlled trial design, focusing on the employer’s perspective. It evaluated the program’s effects immediately after completion and again at 4, 8, and 12 months later. The analysis measured costs and quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) using advanced statistical models. Key metrics included incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) and return on investment calculations.
Results
A total of 120 office workers joined the trial, with 94 completing it. The intervention significantly improved QALYs, while costs showed no significant change. The ICER was -25,325 per QALY gained, with an 88% chance that the program would save costs. The break-even point was reached just one week after the program ended.
Conclusion
The NEXpro program can lower company costs and enhance employee quality of life. However, more evidence is needed to confirm its cost-effectiveness, highlighting a gap in current research.
