Fractional CO2 laser with topical insulin versus PRP for atrophic acne scars: a randomized split-face study

Introduction

Atrophic acne scarring is a common issue that many people face. Various treatments exist, but combining them often leads to better results. This study compares two treatments: topical insulin and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) used alongside fractional CO2 laser therapy.

Study Overview

The study involved 30 patients with atrophic acne scars. Each patient received four sessions of fractional CO2 laser treatment on both sides of their face, spaced one month apart. After this, one side of the face was treated with topical PRP, while the other side received topical insulin. Two dermatologists evaluated the results using the Acne Scar Assessment Scale (ASAS).

Results

Before treatment, both sides of the face had similar ASAS scores. One month after completing the treatments, there was a significant improvement in scores for both sides. However, there was no significant difference between the two treatments (p = 0.794), indicating that both treatments were effective.

Practical Healthcare Solutions

Both topical insulin and PRP can improve atrophic acne scars when used with fractional CO2 laser therapy. Clinics can consider implementing these combined treatments to enhance patient outcomes.

Measurable Outcomes

For clinics and patients, it’s essential to set clear goals for treatment effectiveness. Monitoring improvements in ASAS scores can help assess the success of the treatments.

AI Tools for Clinical Needs

Clinics should explore AI solutions tailored to track and analyze treatment outcomes. These tools can help manage patient data and improve treatment strategies.

Implementation Steps

Start with a pilot project to test the combined treatments. Use AI solutions to monitor results and assess their real-world impact on patients with atrophic acne scars.
