This study focused on improving how mental disorders are diagnosed through a blended learning course. Accurate diagnoses are crucial for effective patient treatment, and poor diagnoses can lead to serious issues.

The aim was to develop and assess a blended learning course using a multicenter cluster randomized controlled trial.

Methodology

We involved 350 undergraduate psychology students from 18 courses across 3 universities. These courses were split into two groups: one using blended learning and the other using traditional teaching methods. We measured:

  • Participants’ performance in clinical diagnostic interviews.
  • Diagnostic knowledge.
  • Participants’ feedback on the courses.

Key Findings

The results showed that:

  • The blended learning course had a pass rate of 89%, compared to 74.6% for the traditional course.
  • Students in the blended course were 2.77 times more likely to pass the behavioral test.
  • Blended learning also improved diagnostic knowledge and participants found it clearer, better structured, and more informative.

Conclusion

Blended learning can significantly enhance the diagnostic skills and knowledge of future clinicians, leading to better mental health care.
