Objective
The goal of this study was to evaluate how effective a comprehensive rehabilitation program is for patients with severe leg issues due to combat injuries and chronic critical lower limb ischemia (CCLLI). This program included treatments like stem cell therapy, acupuncture, physiotherapy, and physical exercises.
Patients and Methods
In a six-month clinical trial, 40 male patients (average age 62.5 years) with CCLLI participated. Among them, 10 had combat-related injuries. They were divided into two groups: one group received the full rehabilitation program (20 patients), including stem cell therapy, while the other group received standard treatment only (20 patients).
Results
Patients in the rehabilitation program showed significant improvements:
- Better blood flow (measured by ankle-brachial index).
- Less pain (measured by VAS pain score).
- 75% of patients in the rehabilitation group improved their walking distance, compared to only 40% in the standard treatment group.
- All patients in the rehabilitation group healed their trophic ulcers, while only 25% in the standard group did.
- Only 5% of patients in the rehabilitation group were at risk of amputation, compared to 40% in the standard group.
Conclusion
The comprehensive rehabilitation program, which included stem cell therapy, significantly improved pain relief, tissue healing, and overall recovery for patients with CCLLI, especially those with combat injuries. This approach notably reduced the risk of lower limb amputation.
Opportunities Based on Trial Data
We can define measurable outcomes and set clear goals for using autologous mesenchymal stem cells in rehabilitation for patients with severe CCLLI and pain syndromes. Clinics can implement these findings to improve patient care.
AI Tools for Clinical Needs
Select AI solutions that are tailored to specific tasks in managing patients with severe CCLLI and pain syndromes. These tools can help track progress and outcomes effectively.
Implementation Steps
Start with a pilot project to test the rehabilitation program and use AI solutions to monitor results. This will help assess the real-world impact of using autologous mesenchymal stem cells in rehabilitation.
