Bleaching Efficacy of In-Office Dental Bleaching
Objective
This study aimed to compare the effectiveness and side effects of different in-office dental bleaching application protocols.
Methods
165 participants underwent bleaching with a 35% hydrogen peroxide gel using three different protocols. Color change, tooth sensitivity, gingival irritation, self-perception, and oral health impact were evaluated.
Results
All protocols produced similar color changes, but the 2 × 20 min protocol had the highest risk of tooth sensitivity. Self-perception and oral health impact improved significantly after bleaching for all groups.
Conclusions
The 1 × 30 min protocol provided equivalent color change with reduced risk of tooth sensitivity and shorter application time.
Clinical Relevance
A simplified 30-minute application protocol offers effective bleaching, patient satisfaction, and fewer side effects.
