Comparison of IASTM and ESWT in Myofascial Pain Syndrome
Background/Aim:
To compare the effectiveness of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) and extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) in treating myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) and to determine their superiority over conservative treatment (CT).
Materials and Methods:
42 female MPS patients were randomly assigned to CT, CT+IASTM, or CT+ESWT groups. Treatment lasted 3 weeks, with different session frequencies. Pain intensity, pressure pain threshold, cervical range of motion, and other parameters were measured before and after treatment.
Results:
The CT+IASTM group showed greater improvements in pain intensity, pressure pain threshold, and range of motion compared to the other groups. No significant differences were found in other outcome measures.
Conclusions:
All three treatments can alleviate the negative effects of MPS. IASTM treatment is particularly beneficial for patients with range of motion limitations and low pressure pain thresholds.
Practical Solutions and Value:
Clinical trials are essential for developing safe and effective treatments. Our AI-driven platform, DocSym, consolidates clinical protocols and research into an easily accessible knowledge base for clinicians. Additionally, our mobile apps support scheduling, treatment monitoring, and telemedicine, streamlining operations and improving patient care in today’s healthcare environment.
By leveraging AI, clinics can enhance workflows, improve patient outcomes, and reduce paper routines. Learn more about how we can help at aidevmd.com.
