Digital Mental Health Screening for Teens: A New Approach
Study Overview: This study focuses on improving mental health care for teens with complex needs through a digital system called the Teen Assess, Check, and Heal (TeACH) System. By integrating this system into pediatric primary care (PPC), we aim to enhance access and reduce barriers to mental health screening and treatment.
Purpose of the Study:
The goal is to test the effectiveness of the TeACH System compared to a control group in pediatric clinics in Chicago. The study seeks to increase teens’ engagement with digital mental health tools and address individual barriers to care.
How the Study Works:
- Teens will be recruited from PPC clinics at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and Rush University Medical Center (RUSH).
- Participants will fill out surveys and be randomly assigned to either the TeACH System or a digital workbook.
- Follow-up surveys will measure changes in engagement and understanding of mental health needs.
Current Progress:
Recruitment started in July 2024, with 122 teens participating so far. Data collection will conclude in August 2025.
Expected Outcomes:
This research will help determine how effective the TeACH System and similar low-intensity treatments are in supporting teens with complex needs.
