Effects of Korean Versus Western Diets on Reproductive Function in Young Korean Men: A 12-Week Randomized Parallel Clinical Trial
ABSTRACT
- Unhealthy diets may lead to a decline in sperm quality.
- This study compared the effects of Korean and Western diets on reproductive function in young Korean men.
METHODS
- Participants were given either the Korean Diet (KD group) or the Western Diet (WD group) for 12 weeks.
- Semen quality and sexual function were evaluated at baseline, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks.
RESULTS
- The KD group showed increased sperm motility after 8 weeks but decreased after 12 weeks.
- The WD group had decreased sperm motility after 8 weeks and remained constant after 12 weeks.
- Free testosterone levels increased in the KD group after 12 weeks but decreased in the WD group.
- No severe side effects were reported, and no significant changes in clinical test values were found.
CONCLUSION
- The study suggests that the Korean Diet positively affects sperm motility and male hormone levels in young men, potentially benefiting reproductive function.
