Effects of Active Break Intervention on Low Back Pain in Young People
Study Overview
This study focused on how the Active Break program can help reduce low back pain (LBP) in young people. Prolonged sitting, especially in a bent position, can lead to discomfort and is linked to LBP. Our goal was to see if this program could lessen pain and improve mobility.
Methods
We conducted a randomized controlled trial with young individuals who experience non-specific LBP. Participants were divided into two groups: one group followed the Active Break program (AB-group, n = 25), while the other group (C-group, n = 25) received standard care advice. The program lasted for 12 weeks. We measured pain levels, disability, and discomfort during sitting.
Results
After 12 weeks, the AB-group showed a significant reduction in pain and discomfort compared to their starting levels. In contrast, the C-group did not show significant improvements. The differences in pain levels between the two groups were notable post-intervention.
Conclusions
The Active Break intervention proved effective in reducing low back pain in young people over 12 weeks. This research provides valuable insights for managing and preventing low back pain, benefiting individuals, educators, healthcare providers, trainers, and family doctors.
