Empowering Low-Income Patients with Home Blood Pressure Monitors to Improve Hypertension Control
ABSTRACT
Managing hypertension (HTN) is vital in primary care, especially for uninsured and low-income patients. This study assessed the impact of providing free home blood pressure (BP) monitors on patients’ HTN control and therapy adherence at an underserved community clinic. The results showed that patients who received the intervention experienced significantly higher odds of controlled HTN and a greater proportion achieved BP control compared to the comparison group. Additionally, the intervention group had higher Therapy Adherence Scale (TAS) scores. These findings suggest that providing free home BP monitors to low-income patients can effectively improve BP control and therapy adherence.
