Enhancing treatment of lumbar disc herniation with Erxian decoction and auricular acupoint pressure: A randomized controlled trial
Objective
The study aimed to assess the clinical effectiveness of combining Erxian decoction with auricular acupoint pressure therapy in treating lumbar disc herniation (LDH). The goal was to provide evidence for integrating traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) rehabilitation techniques into clinical settings.
Methods
The randomized controlled trial included 102 patients with LDH, divided into Control and Intervention groups. The Control group received a 2-week rehabilitation regimen, while the Intervention group received an augmented treatment with Erxian decoction and auricular acupoint pressure therapy. Various outcome measures and inflammatory markers were evaluated at baseline, 14-day, and 28-day posttreatment.
Results
Both groups showed significant improvements in pain scales, inflammatory markers, and pain threshold values after 2 weeks of treatment, which persisted at the 28-day mark. The Intervention group exhibited significantly better outcomes compared to the Control group on the 14th day.
Conclusion
The combination of Erxian decoction and auricular acupoint pressure therapy demonstrated clear benefits in alleviating symptoms in patients with LDH, compared to conventional rehabilitation therapy. This approach provides new perspectives and supports future treatment strategies for managing LDH.
