Evaluating the impact of oral hygiene instruction and digital oral health education within cardiac rehabilitation clinics: A protocol for a novel, dual centre, parallel randomised controlled trial
ABSTRACT
Oral health is closely linked to cardiovascular health, and inflammatory gum diseases can have significant systemic implications. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of individualized oral hygiene instruction (OHI) combined with digital oral health education (DOHE) in improving the oral health of patients with cardiovascular disease.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS
165 participants will be recruited from cardiac rehabilitation clinics for this trial. They will be assigned to one of three groups: OHI partnered with DOHE, DOHE only, or control/usual care. The primary outcome will be the change in plaque index score between baseline and 6-week follow-up.
ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION
The study has been approved by the Western Sydney Local Health District Human Ethics Committee. Results will be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at conferences.
