New Solutions for Treating Chronic Recurrent Cystitis in Women: Experience with Superlymph
Introduction
Chronic recurrent cystitis is a common and challenging issue in urology. Traditional antimicrobial treatments often fail to provide long-term relief.
Aim
This study aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of the drug Superlymph, administered through rectal and vaginal suppositories in two dosages: 10 U and 25 U, for women suffering from chronic recurrent cystitis.
Materials and Methods
We conducted a randomized clinical trial involving 60 women aged 18 to 80, diagnosed with chronic recurrent bacterial uncomplicated cystitis. Participants were divided into three groups:
- Group 1: 25 women received Superlymph 25 U rectally once a day for 20 days.
- Group 2: 25 women received Superlymph 10 U vaginally twice a day for 20 days.
- Control Group: 10 women received standard treatment with fosfomycin and nitrofurantoin.
We compared the effects of the different administration methods on bladder health and cystitis symptoms. The treatment lasted 20 days with follow-ups.
Results
Superlymph showed better results compared to standard treatments. Key findings include:
- Rectal administration: 41% decrease in urothelial metaplasia levels.
- Vaginal administration: 9% decrease in urothelial metaplasia levels.
- Improvement in symptoms was 36% for rectal, 25% for vaginal, and 19% for the control group.
- Quality of life improved by 50.8% for rectal, 33.9% for vaginal, and 31.1% for control.
- Pain levels decreased by 30% for rectal, 23% for vaginal, and 13% for control groups.
- Rectal administration led to significant decreases in inflammation markers.
Conclusion
The drug Superlymph, which includes natural antimicrobial peptides and cytokines, has proven effective for treating chronic recurrent cystitis in women. Rectal administration is recommended, particularly for older patients with a long history of this condition.
