Objective
This study aimed to find out how effective a special type of endoscopy called magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) is when combined with better nursing care in diagnosing early gastric cancer.
Methods
Patients who had a painless gastroscopy between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021, were randomly chosen for this study. They were split into two groups:
- The experimental group received ME-NBI and enhanced nursing care, which included psychological support and better patient preparation.
- The control group received standard endoscopy and regular nursing care.
We looked at the rates of gastric cancer detection, patient cooperation, and the clarity of mucosal visibility during the procedure.
Results
A total of 998 patients participated, with 499 in each group. Key findings included:
- The experimental group had a gastric cancer detection rate of 4.2%, much higher than the control group’s 0.6%.
- In the experimental group, 66.93% of patients showed good cooperation, compared to only 6.21% in the control group.
- Mucosal visibility was better in the experimental group, with 76.95% scoring high visibility compared to 5.41% in the control group.
Conclusion
This study shows that combining refined nursing care with ME-NBI can significantly improve patient cooperation, the visibility of the gastric mucosa, and the detection rate of gastric cancer. This approach is recommended for broader clinical use.
Opportunities for Clinics
Based on the trial data, clinics should:
- Set clear goals to improve patient care and detection rates.
- Measure outcomes like patient cooperation and cancer detection rates.
- Consider implementing AI tools that enhance clinical workflows.
