Objective
This study looked at how effective acupoint massage at specific points (Yuji and Zhaohai) is in reducing hoarseness after thyroid surgery.
Methods
We included 106 patients who had thyroid surgery from March to June 2023. They were divided into two groups:
- Control Group: Received standard treatment with neurotrophic drugs.
- Observation Group: Received standard treatment plus acupoint massage at Yuji and Zhaohai.
We compared voice quality, symptom improvement, and patient satisfaction between the two groups.
Results
The results showed that:
- The observation group had better voice improvement than the control group.
- Voice Handicap Index (VHI) scores were significantly lower in the observation group.
- Objective voice measurements (like Jitter and Shimmer) also improved in the observation group.
- The cure rate for hoarseness was much higher in the observation group (96.2% vs. 17%).
- Patient satisfaction was greater in the observation group (98.1% vs. 84.9%).
Conclusion
Acupoint massage at Yuji and Zhaohai is beneficial for patients experiencing hoarseness after thyroid surgery. It helps improve voice quality and speeds up recovery.
Opportunities for Clinics
Based on these findings, clinics can:
- Set clear goals for using acupoint massage in recovery plans.
- Measure outcomes like voice quality and patient satisfaction.
- Implement pilot projects to track the effectiveness of this therapy.
