Effects of White Noise Intervention on Sleep Quality and Immunological Indicators in Breast Cancer Patients
Objective
The study aimed to assess how white noise affects sleep quality and immune responses in breast cancer patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).
Methods
From January 2020 to December 2022, 104 newly diagnosed female breast cancer patients were randomly assigned to two groups: an observation group and a control group, with 52 patients in each. The control group received standard NAC treatment, while the observation group also listened to white noise every night during treatment. We measured clinical effectiveness, safety, sleep quality, and immune responses in both groups.
Results
Both groups had similar overall treatment responses and safety events. However, the observation group experienced significantly fewer adverse reactions. After the intervention, the observation group showed better sleep outcomes, with improvements in sleep latency, quality, duration, daytime function, and fewer sleep disorders compared to the control group. Changes in immune indicators were observed in both groups, but these differences were not statistically significant.
Conclusion
White noise can enhance sleep quality for breast cancer patients undergoing NAC and reduces the occurrence of side effects. It does not affect treatment effectiveness, safety, or immune responses.
Importance of Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are essential for developing safe and effective treatments. It’s vital to integrate their findings into everyday medical practice.
