Background
Breast cancer is a major health issue in Pakistan, with many women diagnosed at advanced stages. Regular screening is not common among Pakistani women, despite the increasing number of cases. There is a lack of research focused on improving breast self-examination practices in this context.
Study Purpose
This study aims to create and test an educational program on breast self-examination (BSE) for college teachers in Pakistan. It will use a randomized controlled trial method over three months to see how effective this program is.
Methodology
Participants will be divided into two groups: one will receive the educational intervention, while the other will not (control group). Data will be collected before and after the intervention to measure changes in knowledge and practices related to breast self-examination.
Expected Outcomes
The main goal is to improve the practice of breast self-examination among participants. Secondary goals include increasing knowledge and changing beliefs about breast cancer and self-examination.
Discussion
This trial aims to enhance women’s understanding of breast self-examination, encouraging early detection of breast cancer. Early detection can lead to better treatment options, lower death rates, and reduced healthcare costs.
Next Steps
Based on the trial results, healthcare providers can implement similar educational programs in other settings. This can lead to improved health outcomes for women and more effective use of healthcare resources.
