Increasing Cancer Screening Participation
Study Overview:
A clinical trial investigated the effectiveness of increasing cervical and colorectal cancer screening participation by leveraging attendance at breast cancer screenings. The trial was conducted in the Central Denmark Region from September 2021 to May 2022.
Intervention:
At selected breast cancer screening units, women attending were offered self-sampling kits for cervical and colorectal cancer screening if they were overdue. The control group received standard screening offers.
Key Findings:
Six months after the intervention, the total coverage for cervical and colorectal cancer screening was higher in the intervention group compared to the control group. Among women overdue for screening, participation in the intervention group was significantly higher for both cervical and colorectal cancer screenings.
Implications:
Offering self-sampling kits to overdue women during breast cancer screenings increased participation and total coverage for cervical and colorectal cancer screenings.
