Aim of the Study
The study aimed to compare the results of two different treatments for patients with peri-implantitis, a condition affecting dental implants. It looked at non-surgical treatment followed by either reconstructive therapy or supportive care without further surgery.
Study Overview
This clinical trial involved 36 patients diagnosed with peri-implantitis and had specific bone defects. All patients first received a standard non-surgical treatment. Those who did not show improvement were divided into two groups: one received reconstructive therapy, while the other only received regular supportive care every three months.
Results
Out of the 36 patients, 34 completed the study. Both treatment methods showed significant improvements after 12 months. Disease resolution occurred in about 44% of patients in both groups, indicating no major difference in overall success rates. However, the group that received reconstructive therapy had a much greater increase in bone levels compared to the supportive care group.
Conclusions
Both treatments were effective in resolving the disease, but reconstructive therapy led to significantly better bone recovery. This suggests that while both approaches can work, reconstructive therapy may offer additional benefits for bone health.
Opportunities for Clinics and Patients
Based on the trial data, clinics can set clear goals for improving patient outcomes through reconstructive therapy. Measurable outcomes include the level of bone recovery and disease resolution rates.
AI Tools for Clinical Needs
Clinics should consider AI solutions that can assist in tracking patient progress and outcomes related to peri-implantitis treatments. Tailored AI tools can help streamline processes and enhance patient care.
Implementation Steps
Start with a pilot project to test the effectiveness of reconstructive therapy. Use AI solutions to monitor results and assess the real-world impact of the treatment.
