Background
Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common reason people visit doctors. It can lead to high medical costs and impact patients’ quality of life. This study looked at how meditation can help people with FD when used alongside standard treatments. Meditation is a safe and affordable therapy that may reduce the side effects of long-term medications.
Objectives
We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of meditation for patients with FD and compare it to those receiving standard treatment only. We focused on improving quality of life related to gastrointestinal health, anxiety, and sleep.
Methods
Patients were divided into two groups: one received standard treatment plus meditation, while the other received standard treatment alone. We measured their progress at the start, after 4 weeks, and after 8 weeks using specific health scores.
Results
Both groups showed improvements in health scores after the treatment. However, the group that practiced meditation showed more significant improvements in gastrointestinal health, anxiety, and sleep quality compared to the control group at the 8-week mark.
Conclusion
This pilot study suggests that meditation can be a beneficial addition to the treatment of FD, improving both gastrointestinal health and overall well-being. We recommend integrating meditation into treatment plans for FD and similar conditions.
