The trial took place from March 2022 to March 2023, involving 130 patients with CKD stages 3-4 from a hospital in Zhuhai. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: one received coaching (intervention group) and the other did not (control group). Their health literacy was measured at the start and after 12 months.

  • No major differences were found in health literacy or kidney function between the two groups.
  • However, the intervention group showed better health behaviors, such as seeking information, attending checkups, and being more physically active.
  • Patients with intermediate education levels saw improvements in hemoglobin levels after coaching.
  • Education level influenced how effective the coaching was for patients.

Conclusion

Health coaching can enhance self-management and improve hemoglobin levels in patients with CKD. Education plays a crucial role in the success of these coaching techniques.
