Background
High blood pressure (BP) is a widespread issue, affecting about one-third of people globally. Poor sleep quality can increase the risk of high BP, but this is something we can improve. Yoga may help lower BP, but we need more information about how long and how intense the sessions should be. This study aims to test an online yoga program as a complementary therapy.
Objectives
- To see if online yoga can improve sleep quality, overall health, and lower BP.
- To understand how the online yoga program is implemented and gather participants’ feedback.
Methods
We will conduct a randomized controlled trial, following strict guidelines to ensure reliable results. Participants will be divided into three groups:
- Control group: receives standard treatment.
- Yoga group 1: practices yoga for 20 minutes, twice a week.
- Yoga group 2: practices yoga for 40 minutes, twice a week.
All groups will participate for 10 weeks. We will measure sleep quality, health-related quality of life, and BP to compare the results.
Inclusion Criteria
Participants must be:
- 65 years or older
- Diagnosed with high BP
- Fluent in Danish
- Able to give consent
- Have daily access to a smartphone or tablet
Discussion
This study is important because high BP is usually treated with medication. Exploring non-drug options like yoga could improve patient outcomes in a more holistic way.
Trial Registration
ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT06553820. Protocol version 1, dated November 13, 2024.
Measurable Outcomes
We aim to clearly define the impact of MediYoga on sleep quality, blood pressure, and quality of life for older adults with hypertension.
