The Prognostic Value of Blood Test Indices in Cervical Cancer Patients
Introduction:
There is increasing interest in using routine blood tests like RDW and SII to predict survival in cancer patients receiving radiotherapy. This study aimed to assess the connection between pre-treatment RDW and SII levels and overall survival (OS) in patients with localized cervical cancer undergoing radiotherapy.
Material and Methods:
- Retrospective analysis of 249 patients with stage IB2-IVA cervical cancer treated with definitive radiotherapy between 2011 and 2017.
- Statistical analysis used Kaplan-Meier method, log-rank tests, and Cox proportional hazards models.
Results:
- Patients with low RDW and low SII had significantly longer OS.
- Low RDW was an independent prognostic factor for survival.
- Including RDW in the model improved the prediction accuracy.
Conclusions:
RDW is a cost-effective and widely available prognostic factor for survival in cervical cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy. It could enhance pre-treatment prognosis assessments and aid in identifying candidates for treatment escalation.
