Treatment of temporomandibular joint internal derangement using MESNA injection

Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Internal Derangement using MESNA Injection

Introduction

The study focuses on using MESNA injection to treat temporomandibular joint (TMJ) internal derangement, targeting the inflammation that contributes to TMJ diseases.

Objectives

The aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of injecting MESNA directly into the TMJ for treating internal derangement.

Materials and Methods

A randomized clinical trial involved sixty patients with TMJ anterior disc displacement who were unresponsive to conventional treatment. They were divided into two groups, with one receiving MESNA injection and the other receiving a standard treatment.

Results

Both MESNA and the standard treatment showed significant improvement in mouth opening, lateral movement, reduced clicking, and lower pain scores up to six months after treatment. MESNA demonstrated more noticeable improvement during the follow-up compared to the standard treatment.

Conclusion

MESNA showed more significant improvement during the follow-up period compared to the standard treatment.
