Effects of Tongue Tamers and Customized Bonded Spurs for Anterior Open Bite Treatment
Background
Anterior open bite is a common issue for children that can affect their appearance, speech, eating, and emotional well-being. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential.
Aim
This study investigates how effective prefabricated metal-bonded tongue tamers and customized bonded spurs are for treating anterior open bite in children.
Materials and Methods
Seventy-five children aged 7-9 were divided into three groups:
- Group I: Treated with tongue tamers
- Group II: Treated with customized bonded spurs
- Group III: Treated with conventional fixed palatal cribs
Measurements were taken before and after three months of treatment, using study models and cephalometric x-rays. Data were analyzed statistically.
Results
All groups showed an increase in overbite at the front teeth, with the most significant improvement in Groups I and III. Overjet (the distance between the upper and lower teeth) decreased in all groups, especially in Group I. Key findings include:
- Group I had the greatest reduction in overjet.
- Group I and III showed more significant improvements in certain measurements compared to Group II.
- Overall, tongue tamers were effective and easy to use, promoting better dental function.
Conclusion
Early treatment of anterior open bite using tongue tamers is beneficial for correcting dental issues and restoring function.
