Introduction
Current treatments for osteoarthritis (OA) use a mix of medications and lifestyle changes. A natural supplement called undenatured chicken collagen type II (NK2) is safe and effective for joint health and can be used alone or with other OA treatments.
Aim of the Study
This study aimed to test how effective a product called Artneo, which contains NK2, is for patients with stage III knee OA compared to a placebo in a well-structured clinical trial.
Study Details
The study involved 212 patients from 12 locations in Russia, specifically focusing on 50 patients with stage III knee OA. Most participants were women aged between 44 to 75 years. Patients were randomly divided into two groups:
- Group 1 (Artneo group): 28 patients took 1 capsule of Artneo daily for 180 days.
- Group 2 (Placebo group): 22 patients took a placebo that looked the same as Artneo and followed the same schedule.
To measure the effectiveness, researchers looked at pain levels, joint function, quality of life, and the need for pain-relief medications.
Results
The trial found that Artneo significantly outperformed the placebo in reducing pain and stiffness, improving joint function, and enhancing overall quality of life. It also had a good safety record.
Conclusion
Artneo showed high effectiveness and safety for patients, especially those with stage III knee OA.
