Introduction
Managing anticoagulant prescriptions is vital for treating venous thromboembolism (VTE). Clinical decision support systems (CDSS) help healthcare professionals make better decisions.
Objective
The goal was to create and evaluate a mobile app-based CDSS for managing VTE.
Methods
A randomized controlled trial involved participants aged 20 and older, including medical students and residents. They were divided into two groups: one used the app-based CDSS (DECIDE-COAGĀ®) and the other did not. Participants worked on 15 clinical scenarios related to anticoagulant management.
Results
From September to November 2023, 126 participants took part. Those using the app had a much higher accuracy score of 95.6% compared to 41.3% for the control group, showing a significant improvement. Participants were also very satisfied with the app, rating various features highly.
Conclusions
The DECIDE-COAGĀ® app significantly improved the accuracy of anticoagulant prescriptions and VTE management. More studies are needed to explore its benefits in everyday clinical settings.
Measurable Outcomes
Set clear goals for clinics and patients based on the trial data to enhance VTE management.
