Feasibility Study: Medical Imaging as Therapeutic Patient Education Tool in Radiotherapy
Key Findings
Cancer is a major public health challenge, and radiotherapy is a crucial treatment option. Medical imaging, previously used mainly by professionals, is now being explored for patient education. An experimental study at the University Hospital of Liège showed promising results. Patients who received 3D visualization of their own medical images reported improved knowledge, decreased anxiety, and reduced depression. The low refusal rate (8.2%) among the 15 patients recruited highlights the potential for wider use of medical imaging in patient education.
