Clinical Efficacy of Combined Treatments for Diabetic Foot Ulcers
Objective
This study investigates how autologous platelet-rich gel (APG) combined with continuous vacuum-sealed drainage (CVSD) and recombinant human acidic fibroblast growth factor (rh-aFGF) can help heal diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). The goal is to understand the healing process better and find new treatment options.
Methods
Ninety patients with DFU were divided into three groups:
- Group A: Received CVSD after wound cleaning.
- Group B: Received CVSD and negative pressure wound therapy, with rh-aFGF added to saline for washing.
- Group C: Received APG along with the treatments from Group B.
The effectiveness of each treatment was monitored, and various health markers were measured before and after 14 days of treatment.
Results
All groups showed good healing results. However, Group C had the best outcomes:
- Faster wound healing.
- Fewer dressing changes.
- Shorter healing time (P< 0.05).
After treatment, Group C showed significant improvements in reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, leading to better healing (all P< 0.05).
Conclusions
The combination of APG, CVSD, and rh-aFGF is effective in treating difficult wounds. This approach not only speeds up healing but also reduces pain and the need for frequent dressing changes. The improvements are linked to lower oxidative stress and better management of inflammation.
