Background
Modern technology has greatly improved how students learn and develop their skills.
Study Overview
A six-month study was conducted at Khyber College of Dentistry in Peshawar. The goal was to compare traditional learning methods with YouTube learning to see which better improved students’ ability to diagnose using lateral cephalometry.
Results
Seventy-four students participated, with an average age of 23 years. The group was made up of 35.1% males and 64.9% females.
The control group, which used traditional methods, had an average score of 5.54 before the training, which increased to 13.62 after. The group that used YouTube learning started with an average score of 4.08 and improved to 15.29.
This means the YouTube group performed better, with average scores of 15.29 compared to 13.62 for the control group. Overall, participants were satisfied with the course content, materials, and the knowledge of the instructors. However, some were less satisfied with the classroom location and equipment.
Conclusions
This study shows that YouTube can be an effective teaching tool. It was found to be more effective than traditional methods for teaching how to identify cephalometric landmarks.
