A New Laparoscopic Technique for Direct Inguinal Hernia Closure
Study Overview
This study aimed to create a new surgical technique for closing direct inguinal hernias and to assess the effectiveness and safety of a new type of suture used during surgery.
Methods
We conducted a study at Yudin State Clinical Hospital in Moscow from February to August 2024. A total of 142 male patients over 18 years old with newly diagnosed direct inguinal hernias were included. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: one group received the new suture technique, while the other did not.
Results
- On the first day after surgery, ultrasound showed that 11.7% of the patients who received the new technique had fluid collections (seromas), compared to 43.1% in the control group.
- The average surgery time was slightly longer for the new technique group (47.25 minutes) compared to the control group (43.63 minutes).
- Pain levels on the second day were similar in both groups, indicating mild to moderate discomfort.
- No serious complications occurred in either group within 30 days after surgery.
Conclusion
This study introduces a new surgical technique for closing inguinal hernia defects, showing potential benefits like reduced seromas and less severe pain after surgery. More studies are needed to understand the long-term effects and best practices for this technique.
