Study Details
The trial included 54 participants who received bleaching treatments using three different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide: 18%, 25%, and 40%. The following was measured:
- Tooth color before, after the first and second bleaching sessions, and six months later.
- Tooth sensitivity immediately after treatment, one day later, and seven days later.
- Quality of life changes using a questionnaire before and six months after bleaching.
Key Findings
All concentrations of HP resulted in similar tooth whitening results. Here are the main outcomes:
- Tooth color improvement was consistent across all groups, showing no significant differences (p > 0.05).
- Tooth sensitivity increased immediately after bleaching but returned to baseline levels after seven days.
- Patients reported a better aesthetic self-perception after the treatment, with no significant differences between groups.
Conclusions
All concentrations of hydrogen peroxide were equally effective in whitening teeth and did not significantly affect tooth sensitivity in the long term. Patients experienced positive changes in how they perceived their smiles.
Clinical Significance
In-office bleaching with different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide provides similar benefits. However, results may vary with other products, so caution is advised when applying these findings to different bleaching agents.
