Study Overview
This study tested a digital version of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) combined with emotion regulation (dCBT-I + ER) in workplace settings. It aimed to help people with insomnia and symptoms of depression or anxiety.
Methodology
Participants were randomly assigned to either the intervention group or a waitlist control group. The intervention included:
- A web-based platform for therapy
- Four video-conferencing therapy sessions
- Tracking sleep with actigraphy and a sleep diary
Assessments were done at the start and after 8 weeks to measure improvements in insomnia, depression, anxiety, psychological well-being, quality of life, and work productivity.
Key Findings
Out of 159 participants, those in the intervention group showed:
- Significant improvements in insomnia (p < .0001)
- Reductions in depression (p < .0001)
- Decreased anxiety (p < .0001)
Improvements in psychological well-being were also significant (p < 0.001). However, quality of life, work productivity, and satisfaction did not show notable changes.
Conclusions
The study indicates that the hybrid dCBT-I + ER intervention is effective in improving insomnia, depression, and anxiety in workplace settings. This approach could be a scalable solution worth exploring further for long-term benefits and economic impact.
