Objective
This study aimed to see how ultrasound-guided nerve blocks using Ropivacaine, with or without additional medications, affect pain relief and recovery in patients having thyroid cancer surgery.
Methods
140 patients were divided into four groups for the surgery:
- Group C: General anesthesia only
- Group R: General anesthesia + Ropivacaine
- Group R1: General anesthesia + Ropivacaine + dexmedetomidine
- Group R2: General anesthesia + Ropivacaine + dexamethasone
We measured pain levels and other recovery indicators after surgery.
Results
Patients who received Ropivacaine (Groups R, R1, R2) experienced less pain in the first 24 hours after surgery compared to those who only had general anesthesia (Group C). Specifically:
- Group R had lower pain scores within 12 hours post-surgery.
- Groups R1 and R2 had lower pain scores within 24 hours.
- Group R1 showed better sedation after surgery compared to Group R2.
Conclusion
Using Ropivacaine with or without additional medications improves pain relief and recovery compared to general anesthesia alone. Combining Ropivacaine with dexmedetomidine provides better sedation than with dexamethasone.
