Effects of Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation on Chronic Low Back Pain
Study Overview
This study aimed to compare two treatment methods for managing chronic mechanical low back pain: instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation and manual myofascial release.
Methodology
The trial was conducted from July 2022 to July 2023 at two clinics in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. It included patients diagnosed with chronic low back pain, randomly assigned to two groups:
- Group A: Received manual myofascial release.
- Group B: Received instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation using a long bar tool.
Each group underwent 9 treatment sessions over 3 weeks, and the results were analyzed.
Results
Out of 50 participants, 37 were females and 13 were males, with an average age of 25.1 years. Both treatment methods led to significant improvements in:
- Pain levels
- Range of motion
- Disability
There was no significant difference between the two groups.
Conclusions
Both manual myofascial release and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation were equally effective in treating chronic mechanical low back pain.
