Study Overview
This study compares the effects of Kegel exercises combined with abdominal exercises against Kegel exercises alone on urinary incontinence severity, quality of life, and sleep quality in postmenopausal women suffering from stress urinary incontinence (SUI).
Aim of the Study
The aim was to evaluate which exercise method is more effective for improving symptoms in postmenopausal women with SUI.
Methodology
This was a randomized controlled trial involving 70 postmenopausal women diagnosed with SUI. The participants were divided into two groups:
- Experimental Group: Performed Kegel and abdominal exercises.
- Control Group: Performed Kegel exercises only.
Both groups followed a 12-week exercise program, with data collected through pre- and post-tests and interviews.
Results
After 12 weeks, both groups showed improvements in:
- Severity of urinary incontinence
- Quality of life
- Sleep quality
However, the group that performed Kegel and abdominal exercises had better results than the Kegel-only group.
Conclusions
This study recommends that exercise programs combining Kegel and abdominal exercises be implemented as part of conservative treatment for postmenopausal women with SUI.
