Effectiveness of Qingyanyin Granules and Press Needles for Abdominal Obesity
Objective
This study aimed to evaluate how effective and safe Qingyanyin formulated granules (QYY) and press needles (PN) are, both alone and together, in treating abdominal obesity (AO). The goal is to provide a scientifically supported treatment option for patients.
Methods
From March to July 2021, a clinical trial was conducted in 7 centers across 4 major cities in China. Patients with AO participated in this triple-blind, randomized trial. They were divided into four groups:
- Placebo + Simulated Press Needles (SPN)
- QYY + SPN
- Placebo + PN
- QYY + PN
Each group received treatment for 12 weeks, and various health measurements were taken before and after treatment.
Results
The group receiving QYY + PN showed significant reductions in waist circumference compared to the placebo groups. Key findings include:
- QYY + PN group had a waist circumference reduction of 1.59 cm compared to placebo + PN.
- QYY + PN group also had a 2.01 cm reduction compared to placebo + SPN.
- All treatment groups showed improvements in weight and BMI compared to the placebo group.
- Improvements were noted in sleep quality, anxiety, and depression scores across all groups.
Conclusion
This study confirmed that combining QYY with PN effectively reduces waist circumference in patients with AO. This combined approach is more beneficial than using either treatment alone, with no serious side effects reported.
